Remember this dress???? It was huge on her, so I tried again.... This time I used a really cute farm animal print for the dress, lined in white (see also the cheap sheets at Target), and with matching polka dot shorty pants.
And again, it is too big!!! The first dress was the XL size of the pattern. (No, I am not totally crazy. The pattern had no size information on it, so I started big. I figured that if it turned out too large, she could just wear it later.) This time around, I made a medium. I guess I will be making a small dress next!
And, I will apologize for the poor pictures. I figured that showing you a failed sewing project could be done with bad pictures. :-)
The things that I am learning about myself, crafting, sewing, and raising 3 wonderful kids.

Kiddo Portraits
I finally got the portraits taken of the kiddos!!! We went to Portrait Innovations, and I was very pleased with the experience and the quality of the end product. W changed outfits once, and the little ones changed twice. They all started out in white for the shot with all of them together. That is the dress that I made for M. Then it was on to W's scout uniform, D's Cars stuff, and M's sleeveless dress and boots! It was tiring, but I am glad that we did it! Warning.... Lots of pictures following!

Picture Dress
I realized over the Christmas holidays that I have been incredibly slack with pictures. Not really pictures, like photos, but portraits actually. I realized that the twins were then 18 months old. Not that I don't love them at any age, but it occurred to me that there were portraits made of them at 2 weeks old, and then, nothing. 16 months of no portraits!!! With W, I had his portrait made about a zillion times before he was 2. But, D and M, not so much. I don't know why. So, I have started making plans to have portraits made of all my kiddos.
I started with wardrobe choices, and decided, no matter how many times people do the white shirt thing, I like the way that it looks. So, I searched the kids clothes for white shirts. There are none to be found... at least none that were really still white. Off to Old Navy and Target we went to get the boys dress shirts. For M, I found nothing that I liked, or at least nothing that I liked that didn't cost $20 dollars. And really, I am not spending that on white clothing for a toddler. So, I decided to make her a dress.
I used white Minky Dot fabric and this tutorial for a place to start. I added about an inch of width to the measurements, so that my fabric was 6 inches at the top and 12 at the bottom. The elastic took some playing with, but I like the finished product, and so does Miss M. And, I know, there aren't any pictures in this post. You have to wait until the portraits get done!!!

A Summer Dress for Miss M
So awhile ago, I showed this dress. But, it is a warm weather dress, so I didn't get any pictures of Miss M modeling it. Yesterday, it got hot here, so I had her try on the dress. I thought the dress was perfect until we got it on her. Then, I realized that it might still be perfect, but not really until next summer or maybe even the next. It was huge on her!!! I guess I will have to try again with a smaller size! Now I just have to decide if I use the same fabrics again, or go with something different. So many choices...
I might have to make one with the same fabrics and one with different ones!

Another One Growing Up
W is not the only one to be growing up right in front of my eyes. D did it yesterday too! He got his first real haircut. He did a super job sitting still for the entire haircut. M was a bit jealous that she didn't get to sit in a car too, but she did get a balloon when he got one!
Another big boy!

Why Must He Keep Growing Up So Quickly???
Most oldest, W, is almost 11 years old. I have no idea how this much time could have passed since he was born. It just doesn't seem possible. He went from being my only baby, to being so grown up that I just don't get it. Let me give you an example....
Last weekend was his Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. It was his last one since he will be in Boy Scouts next year. This has been coming for quite some time, like the entire 5 years that he has been in Cub Scouts. He was still a sweet little boy and wanted his car to win. (Note- He came in 3rd for his age bracket!) D and M were his cheering section, and everyone had fun.
"Mom, don't take my picture now!"
W and his car, the Black Blur.
D was about 15-30 minutes past happy when the races were finally over. M was still happy.
Side note- She is almost always happy as long as she can take her shoes off and play with them.
Then, tonight, he grew up right in front of me. Tonight was his Arrow of Light ceremony...... his very last Cub Scout event. The next scout event that he will attend will be as a Boy Scout. How did that happen? Have I been asleep and missed years of his life? I look at him, and he changes almost daily. (And not just the way that he brushes his hair a very particular way now to look just right.) He has grown about 4 inches since this time last year, and I just find it hard to believe that he will be 11 in May and start middle school next year. Augh!!!!!
But, back to the Arrow of Light..... He looked wonderful in his uniform, I hope I looked halfway decent for the pictures.
There he is at the beginning of the ceremony...
Look, I am there too...
W with his den leader...
Thanks to those who have led his den for the past 5 years.
He is growing up and there doesn't seem to be much that I can do about it.

St. Patrick's Day preparations
St. Patrick's Day isn't huge in our house, but it is another chance to dress the little ones in cute matchy clothes! I cut the fabric here, but didn't get the clothes totally finished until this week. The little ones wore them to school on Tuesday. D didn't wear his pants, since the fabric is kind of thin and it was chilly that day. After naptime, we went to see the duck and rooster that live nearby, and I got to take pictures!
D in his vest...
M in her dress...
This is what happens if you ask them if they love each other...
M smelling "flowers"...
The duck and rooster....
D waving hello to the duck and rooster...
The dress pattern is the same that I used for M's Valentine's dress. The vest is a pattern that I came up with based on a t-shirt that fit him nicely. It started out having an open front, but D requested that it close, so I added snaps.
Have a great day!

Seuss Fabric!!!
So, I don't have a project finished again today! Sorry. What I do have is two toddlers, that are complete with four ear infections. It has been a snuggly, Barney watching kind of week. But, I did find a great sale on Dr. Seuss themed fabric, and since today is his birthday, I thought I would share it!!! Fabric.com has all of their Seuss themed fabric on sale for the birthday, and the sale runs through the weekend! How awesome is that? I saw some Thing One and Thing Two fabric on their site a few weeks ago, but never got around to ordering it until today, and I saw the sale!!! Needless to say, I was super excited. Here are some pictures of the cute Seuss stuff that is on sale right now!
There are tons more designs available in several different types of fabric, and there is always a ton of fabric yumminess on Fabric.com. Have a great Seuss Day!
